The last time I was assigned to do a research project was for my college now class. Although I am still woking on this research project it is hard to do. I had to do it on OCD and the different symptoms you get with this disease and also how people grow to get it. We then had to write a research paper containing everything we learned and had to make a powerpoint presentation along with it. It took me a while to get information about this project because there was so much to write and all I needed was very detailed information. In the beginning I thought it was going to be a drag doing this research but it really isn't. Another thing is although I got to pick the topic I wanted it wasn't really the topic I wanted. Doing this research project definitely has impacted me because it taught me something new and it was interesting to actually understand why people with OCD are the way they are.
When I first found out I had to do this project I was so annoyed. I don't like looking up research especially about things that don't interest me. But when I was looking more into the information and found personal articles I began to get interested. It was cool finding out new things about people and seeing how other people with this disease live their lives. Another thing is when I'm told to do research I feel like I'm going to have to read articles or papers that are ten to twenty pages long, but with this topic I found articles that weren't too long and gave me the same amount of information of an article with twenty pages. This definitely made me happy. Another thing is I found a lot of videos that related to this topic and it gave me more of an idea on what OCD does to people. This helped me even more with the presentation because I felt weary due to the fact that I couldn't find anything interesting information to put in the presentation that my peers would actually enjoy hearing about.
Knowing I got to pick my topic you would think I would be happy to do my project, but as you can tell I wasn't. The topic I wanted to do was picked by another person so I couldn't do the one I wanted. but, knowing that I was in a group with my friend made the fact that I didn't get what I wanted a little better. My friend and I came to a conclusion of doing OCD since we didn't know anything about the other topics that we could choose from. At least with OCD I knew a little bit about it before I actually started the project. Even though this wasn't the topic I really wanted I still tried my best when doing my research. I'm actually kind of happy I didn't get to do the project I wanted to do because when I was doing this one I actually learned something new rather then me doing a research project on something I already knew about.

Today when I was in class I learned more about the topics I chose. I finished the few topics I needed to finish. I found that with writing about the Suicidal Teenagers it was easier for me to write about. Another thing is although I do not have someone extremely close to me that committed suicide I know of people that have committed suicide. I do want to do a little more research into it though. I want to know what goes through their heads before they actually kill themselves. I also want to know who they come up with the idea of even thinking suicide will help them. I feel that some teenagers shouldn't commit suicide even though they feel its the only option left. It really isn't the only option. They could talk to someone or even call the hot line. I saw the hot line that suicidal teenagers can call when they feel they are at their lowest. There is always a way out of sadness, so, teenagers shouldn't just go straight to committing suicide, they should take advantage of the people around them. If they feel they cannot talk to someone they can always write a note or something. There is always a better way.

Today when I was in class I had to finish the rest of my activity and when I was doing that I learned a lot more about my topics. I learned peoples opinions towards my topics. Some people had such harsh things to say about the topics I chose. For example for abortion the people that weren't for it said such mean things about how if you didn't want one then you shouldn't be participating in what you are doing. I don't feel that, that idea is always true because if you were raped it isn't your fault that you need an abortion now. Another thing I learned is that some people have the same idea as me. Like when I was Juvenile Delinquency the idea came up that if teens aren't given a harsh punishment they will keep doing it. I'm on the fence with that idea only because in some ways i feel it is true that if you give a teen a slap on the wrist they will continue to think that they can do it and not get in trouble but than again I don't think they should be given an adult sentence either. Only enough of a punishment to scare them a little bit.

Yesterday, when I was in College Research Skills I did more to my research project. I finally chose the topic that I wanted to do. The topic I chose was Abortion. This topic interested me because I've always been interested in this topic and there are a lot of ways to go about this topic. You can do a pro and con about it or you can just do a whole opinion type of thing. I just want to talk about what abortion really is because a lot of people are the first person to say abortion is bad but don't actually know what it is and I'm also going to talk about how people feel towards it. I personally feel that abortion should be up to the person rather than up to the people because if you don't feel capable of taking care of a baby then you should either not have sex or be able to make your own decisions towards it. When Mrs. Sarles had us do the worksheets I learned that all I needed to do was detail my question more, rather then just making it a yes or no question.

Today, when I was finishing page two of the work I noticed that I do need to go more in depth with my research. All that I know about Abortion right now are the two sides and how people feel towards Abortion. I do not know the actual process and what/how it affects people. I could only imagine the emotional stress that the woman and their family or friends go through because of this. I would like to know what exactly Abortion is and how it works. I'd also like to look more into some studies of people who have gotten an abortion. Maybe, I can even interview them and ask them about their experience with getting it. I think that some woman would be embarrassed and wouldn't want to talk about their lives as getting an abortion but it is good to inform younger girls about so they can think twice about this sort of thing.

Although we didn't have class this Tuesday, I have some thoughts on what I need to work on next time we have class. One of the things I need to learn is about Abortion. I was thinking about what exactly I need to work on when finding research. Also, I could find someone who has had an Abortion and maybe interview them, but of course not giving their name in my research because an Abortion is something very personal. I weirdly would like to know what helps people make this decision. Like I have a lot of questions about this topic and I feel that just doing some research isn't going to help. I want to actually talk to people who have had this procedure done and see what their thoughts on it. That if they think an abortion is a good idea even if it can be prevented. I hope to find someone who is open enough to answer these questions especially because they are so personal and someone wouldn't feel comfortable explaining their process through their Abortion.

Even though today my computer didn't work I didn't get to do the research i wanted. But I did learn something today. I learned how to fix a Mac's screen. Even though this had nothing to do with what I was suppose to be learning I can definitely use what I learned in the future, especially because the Mac's in the school are always being messed with or messed up. Now if someone else besides me has the issue I had with the computer I was using Thursday I can assist them in trying to fix it. But, the next time we have class I have hopes into getting more in depth with my research on Abortion.

This is great stuff Nicolette, I'm so happy to read that it is helping you learn more about your topics by having to write about them. You are doing exactly what I want you and everyone in the class to be doing - reflecting on your research.
